If you are in Calgary this Saturday (October 17, 2009), plan to attend the Ujamaa Grandmas - Purses for Africa Sale at the South Calgary Community Association: 3130 – 16th Street S.W., from 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM. The sale features unique sewn, knitted and felted purses, bags, accessories, and baby and toddler items all handmade by a group of caring Calgary grandmothers to support grandmothers in Africa.

The event is put on by the Ujamaa Grandmas - a group of Calgary grandmothers who are turning their talents towards a great cause: raising money that will go to community-based organizations in Africa. Specifically to organizations that are helping to turn the tide of HIV/AIDS by providing care to women, grandmothers, orphans and people living with HIV and AIDS. All proceeds from the sale to the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

Good work ladies!
Happy Thanksgiving & Weekend Hours
I love the fall and Thanksgiving in particular. It's chilly today in Canmore and I think it's suppose to be this way for the rest of the weekend. Perfect weather to be all cosy and warm with a great knitting project to work on

I've got the Colonnade Shawl on my needles today which I am doing in Manos Clasica - Naturals. This is a new yarn from Manos Del Uruguay that we just got in. It's also the featured yarn on the cover of the latest issue of Interweave Knits:

Interweave_Fall
The Clasica Naturals come in three natural blends in the sheep's natural colours of grey, brown and ecru, which are then handspun together creating a melange effect. These natural blends have also been overdyed in six rich shades to create a soft wool with incredibly gorgeous and subtle variations in color and texture.

It's also good to know that Manos del Uruguay yarns are produced by a cooperative of Uruguayan women artists, and is member of WFTO, the World Fair Trade Organization,

There is still plenty of time to pick up a project to keep yourself warm and busy over the holiday weekend. We are open Thanksgiving weekend during the following hours:

Saturday: 10:30 - 5:30
Sunday: Noon - 4:30
Monday: Noon - 4:30

Hope to see you. Thank you to everyone who have continued to support the shop. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving full of friends, family, reflection and gratitude!
